This Privacy Policy explains how SpinTurn Software Inc. ("SpinTurn", "we", "us", "our") handles personal information in connection with our SpinTurn DanceSuite apps for Android and iOS — currently DanceTrainer and DanceTracker — and this website (spinturnsoftware.com). Other apps in the suite will be covered by their own policies as they are released. We design our software to collect as little personal information as possible: almost everything you create or import lives on your device and is never sent to us.
By default, the routines, steps, programs, practice logs, notes, and reference videos you create live on your device — not on our servers. We do not operate user accounts and we do not sync your app content to us. We do not sell, rent, or trade personal information, and we do not use it for advertising or to build profiles about you.
SpinTurn has designated a person responsible for the protection of personal information (our Privacy Officer). You can reach our Privacy Officer with any question or request at privacy@spinturnsoftware.com.
In short, we collect very little. Here is everything:
Content you create in the apps. In DanceTrainer, your routines, programs, custom steps and exercises, practice logs and session timings, video-library entries, and local-music references are stored locally on your device. Videos are handled differently on each platform. On Android, a video you add is copied into the Movies/DanceTrainer folder on your device — or moved there if you choose Move when importing, which deletes your original only after the copy succeeds — and the app stores a reference to that copy plus the titles or notes you add; because those copies live in your device's own media storage rather than inside the app, they remain there if you uninstall DanceTrainer, and you can delete them like any other file. On iOS nothing is copied and nothing is deleted: the video stays in your photo library and the app files a reference to it in its own DanceTrainer album, which likewise remains in Photos if you delete the app. Videos added as web links are stored as the link text only, and nothing is downloaded. Music files stay wherever they already are — for those, the app stores only a reference. In DanceTracker, the competition results it displays come from a competition database that is either bundled with the app or downloaded to your device; it is stored in the app's private storage and read locally. DanceTracker's video library works the same way as DanceTrainer's — a Movies/DanceTracker folder on Android, a DanceTracker album in Photos on iOS. Your own settings — such as starred competitors and the labels you create — are stored on your device too. None of your DanceTracker data is transmitted to SpinTurn, and we cannot access it. You can view, edit, and delete this content in the app. Uninstalling removes everything an app stored in its own private storage; videos already saved to your device's media storage stay behind on both platforms until you delete them there.
Music services (DanceTrainer). You can practise to your own music through Spotify, YouTube Music, or files already on your device. When you sign in to a service, the app holds that service's authentication token only while you are signed in and discards it when you log out. For YouTube Music, it reads your playlist and track details from Google's YouTube Data API using read-only access (the youtube.readonly scope); this integration is Android-only — controlling the YouTube Music app needs media controls iOS does not offer, so the option is not shown there. For Spotify, playback runs through the Spotify app already on your device, so we do not contact Spotify's servers ourselves. Album art and thumbnails load over HTTPS to display the player. Local music stays on your device: you pick a folder or files on Android, or pick them through the Files app on iOS, and in both cases the app stores only a reference — nothing is copied or uploaded. Each service has its own privacy policy, linked from its sign-in screen in the app.
Google API Services / YouTube — Limited Use. SpinTurn's use of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. The YouTube Music integration uses the YouTube Data API v3 with read-only access (the youtube.readonly scope) solely to display your playlists and track details so you can choose what to play. Playback itself runs through the YouTube Music app already on your device and does not use this scope. We do not transfer this data to third parties except as needed to provide these features, do not use it for advertising, do not allow humans to read it, and do not use it to build profiles or to train AI/ML models. The data is held only in memory for your current session and is discarded when you log out or close the app; we operate no server that receives it. Your use of YouTube Music is also subject to the YouTube Terms of Service and the Google Privacy Policy.
Health & activity data (DanceTrainer). DanceTrainer can import a workout or exercise session from your device's health store — Health Connect on Android, Apple Health (HealthKit) on iOS — but only when you choose to browse and attach a session to a practice log. With your permission it reads, read-only, up to five metrics for that session: exercise-session details, steps, active calories, heart rate, and distance. These are stored on your device as simple totals inside that log; the underlying samples — individual heart-rate readings, per-step timestamps — are never stored. The app reads nothing in the background, never writes anything back to Health Connect or Apple Health, and requests no permission beyond those five.
We do not use health or fitness data for advertising or marketing, for use-based data mining, or to build profiles about you, and we never sell it, disclose it to third parties, or use it to train artificial-intelligence or machine-learning models. It is not uploaded to any server — we operate none that could receive it. On iOS, the practice database that holds these totals is excluded from iCloud and from device backups, so health information obtained through HealthKit is never stored in iCloud.
You can unlink a log's health data in the app at any time, and each read permission can be revoked independently: on Android from the Health Connect app; on iOS from Settings › Privacy & Security › Health › DanceTrainer, or in the Health app under your profile › Apps. Uninstalling DanceTrainer deletes everything it ever copied out of Health Connect or Apple Health. A fuller health disclosure is available inside the app, from any health section header.
Website analytics. On this website we use GoatCounter, a privacy-friendly analytics tool, to understand aggregate traffic such as which pages are visited. GoatCounter does not use cookies, does not track you across other websites, and does not build a personal profile of you. It records limited, non-identifying technical information — such as the page visited, the referring page, and general browser and device type. IP addresses are used only momentarily to derive an approximate country and a daily, non-identifying visitor count, and are not stored.
When you contact us. If you email us — for example at privacy@spinturnsoftware.com or for support — we receive your email address and whatever you choose to include. We use it only to respond and to keep a record of the correspondence.
App stores & purchases. Our apps are distributed through the Apple App Store and Google Play. When you download or buy an app, the store processes the transaction and any payment details under its own privacy policy — SpinTurn does not receive your payment card information. The store may share limited aggregate or diagnostic information with us in accordance with its terms.
No analytics or tracking in the apps. The SpinTurn apps contain no analytics SDK, no crash reporter, no advertising network, and no third-party SDK that profiles you. They do not collect device or advertising identifiers, they do not track you across apps or websites owned by other companies — and so never ask for permission to do so — and your data is never used to train artificial-intelligence or machine-learning models. Beyond the music services in DanceTrainer described above, the only network connection the apps make is DanceTracker downloading a competition database when one is not already bundled with the app — an ordinary web request that carries no personal information about you. The apps make no analytics, tracking, or telemetry calls. If this ever changes, we will update this policy and, where required, ask for your consent first.

We rely on your consent to handle personal information for the purposes described above, which you give by using our apps and website, and which you may withdraw at any time. Because our website analytics use no cookies and do not identify you, they involve little or no personal information; where any applies, we rely on our legitimate interest in understanding aggregate site traffic. You can prevent analytics by enabling your browser's "Do Not Track" setting or by using a content blocker.
We do not sell or trade your personal information. We share it only with: (a) service providers that process information on our behalf and only on our instructions — currently GoatCounter for website analytics, and the app stores that distribute our apps, Apple Inc. and Google LLC; and (b) authorities or others where we are legally required to, or where necessary to protect our rights, safety, or property. Health and fitness data is never shared with anyone.
Some of our service providers may store or process information outside Québec, including outside Canada. For example, website analytics are processed by GoatCounter on its servers. Before entrusting personal information to a provider outside Québec, we assess whether the information will receive adequate protection. By using this website, you understand that limited, non-identifying analytics information may be processed outside Québec and Canada.
Content you create in the apps stays on your device until you delete it. Aggregate website analytics contain no personal profiles and are retained only for a limited period. Email correspondence is kept only as long as needed to handle your request and to meet our legal obligations, then deleted.
We use reasonable technical and organizational safeguards to protect personal information under our control against loss, theft, and unauthorized access. Because most app data stays on your device, protecting your device — with a screen lock, device encryption, and backups — is an important part of keeping that information safe.
Our apps are not directed at children under 13, and because the content you create stays on your device and is not collected by us, we do not knowingly receive personal information from children through the apps or this website. In Québec, we will not collect personal information from a minor under 14 without the consent of a person having parental authority, except where collection is clearly for the minor's benefit. If you are a parent or guardian and believe a child has provided us personal information (for example, by emailing us), please contact our Privacy Officer and we will delete it. Uninstalling an app removes everything it stored in its own private storage; any videos it had already saved to your device's media storage — the Movies folder on Android, the app's album in Photos on iOS — stay there until you delete them yourself.

Because most of your app content lives only on your device, you can view, correct, and delete much of it directly in the app at any time; if you need a full export and the app does not yet offer one, email us and we will help. For anything we hold (such as email correspondence), contact our Privacy Officer at privacy@spinturnsoftware.com. We will respond within the timeframes required by law (generally 30 days).
If you have a privacy concern, please contact our Privacy Officer first — we want to make it right. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the Commission d'accès à l'information du Québec (CAI) or the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada (OPC).
If a confidentiality incident (data breach) involving your personal information occurs and poses a risk of serious injury, we will notify you and the appropriate authority — such as the CAI or OPC — as required by law, and we will keep a record of the incident.
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will revise the "Last updated" date above and, for significant changes, provide a more prominent notice. Continuing to use our apps or website after an update means you accept the revised policy.
